Nasal spray - Origin product design
Origin is a small product design consultancy. They developed an innovative nasal pump for a multinational client.​

The pump design was simple but novel since it used a rolling O-ring to create the one-way fluid mechanism.
There were a number of development challenges.
The swirl chamber was optimised using laser-etched steel shims to experiment with different dimensions and configurations.
​
Manufacturing tolerance was studied using precision-machined pump prototypes.
​
As the pump expels fluid from the drug container the air pressure will drop inside it, which could compromise the seals over the long term. A semi-transparent metallic film bag was developed to ameliorate this risk
