Sept 2018 - May 2020
Design Engineer, Sparc Product Creation
Design and development of smart domestic air management products for international client. Gas, particulate, humidity and temperature sensors combined with intelligent filters, fans and valves in aesthetically pleasing devices. (solidworks)
July 2016 - April 2020
Principle Design Engineer, Infi-tex

Infi-tex is a high technology start-up specialising in smart fabric pressure sensors.
Applications include patient monitoring bed system and intelligent car seats and interiors.
I was principle engineer for all technical challenges, including manufacturing processes for conductive coatings, sensor drive electronics, embedded firmware programming and customer-facing application software. (solidworks)
June 2017 -
Present
Chief Technical Officer, Trackwall.
Sole designer of interactive ball tracking surface for England Squash, to encourage young players and improve elite level. Using smart materials, high speed processing and networking. Built a large scale (2.4x1.2m) fully automated ink dispensing / pick and place machine for the manufacture of pressure sensitive surface.
April 2016 -
Nov 2016
Mechanical Design Engineer, Chargebox
Chargebox manufacture self-service locked cabinets to charge phones safely in retail environments, bars and outdoor events.
Design and development of custom computer-controlled lock and automatic cable management system. Prototype building and testing. (Solidworks)
Jan 2016 -
July 2016
Design Engineer, 42 Technology
42 Technology is an established Design consultancy in north Cambridge
Design and development of a innovative sensor technology for global aerospace client. First principle concept design and prototype build and testing. Patent granted applied for and granted, named as inventor. (creo)
March 2015 -
Dec 2016
Design Engineer, Plumis
Plumis is a Queens award winning, startup in London. The Plumis system can be discretely retrofitted into buildings and can locate fire using an Infra-red camera. A mist sprinkler can be targeted locally to the fire, ensuring fast suppression and limited water damage.
Design, development and manufacture of improved elecro-mechanical-fluid system made of machined and moulded precision parts in stainless steel, rubber and plastic, using international suppliers. (solidworks)
Jan 2014 -
Jan 2015
Design Engineer, Xaar
Xaar manufactures cutting edge inkjet heads. In particular, they are leaders in printing direct to fabric and on ceramics.
I was part of a team developing the latest ‘thin film’ inkjet print-heads for the industrial printing of fabric. I designed precision plastic mouldings that fed ink to the MEMS inkjet actuator (analogous to a mechanical silicon chip). A highlight included using the latest advanced materials (e.g. ceramics, filled liquid crystal polymer) and advanced manufacturing techniques (e.g. 5axis precision laser cutting). (solidworks)
Jan 2014 -
Jan 2015
Design Engineer, Domino Printing Sciences
Design and development of a new high-speed ribbon cartridge for Industrial printer manufacturer. They are typically used in packaging lines in factories. (creo)
Jan 2014 -
Jan 2015
Principle Engineer, Digital Spray Printing
Conceived, designed and built a unique, large-scale portable commercial spray printer system. This machine can coat directly onto wall surfaces with high precision, creating stunning giant spray painted images. This included all the mechanical, electrical and software design of complex autonomous motorised pneumatic system. (solidworks)
Jan 2014 -
Jan 2015
Design and Development Engineer, Vectura
Vectura is a spin-off from Cambridge Consultants. It designs, develops and licenses disposable drug inhalers. My responsibility was design and development of parts for a new device to challenge the market leader in billion dollar inhaler market. All parts were injection moulded and designed in ProE. A particular challenge was navigating existing patented solutions. (creo, mechanica).

Oct 1998 -
June 2001
Royal College of Art / Imperial College, Industrial Design Engineering

I studied Industrial design engineering, a unique post-graduate course designed for engineers. It is based at the Royal College of Art in London, it teaches a broad range of skills and encourages collaboration between artists, designers and engineers. Courses included Design for Manufacture, Materials and Ergonomics. At the RCA I won the 1851 Exhibition scholarship and the Dyson scholarship (2000).
